After a magical couple of hours at the Wolffer Estate Vineyard, it was time to hit the road and settle into our 24 hour home. We checked into Gurney’s, threw our bags to the side and popped the chilled champagne that was waiting for us.
It was still snowing outside and roasting marshmallows by the fire were unfortunately not an option, so we opted for a couple hours of M.A.S.H. (if you didn’t play this in middle school, you haven’t lived) and Cards Against Humanity.
By the time we finished the deck, we all had six pack abs and a serious appetite so we strolled down to Scarpetta, which is conveniently located in the hotel. The food/wine is great, but be prepared to spend a pretty penny (as with most places in the Hamptons).
Even though the hotel was full, we were the last ones out and about so we reluctantly slurped down the last of the wine and headed back to our rooms for a well deserved slumber, excited for the next day.
I was the first up in our room and much to the displeasure of my roommates, threw the curtains open to start the day. I was prepared for the view of the ocean, but I was not expecting everything (sand, deck and trees) to be covered in four inches of snow. While we were waiting for the boys – yes, the boys – to get ready, we decided it was time to throw a snow party.
In our haste of packing for the trip, we forgot that Gurney’s has an indoor sea water pool. Halfway to the Hamptons, we realized we did not have swimsuits and made a sharp left when we spotted a TJ Maxx. Taylor and I picked out the hottest swimsuits we could find and couldn’t wait to bust them out…

We spent the rest of our time at Gurney’s alternating between lazily brunching, swimming and spa-ing (life is hard sometimes).
I’m all about Gurney’s. Montauk in the winter is a totally different experience (even when it’s not snowing) and it’s fun to see the town sans thousands of summer residents. Do be prepared for nearly everything to be closed though.
Never fear – we never needed to leave the resort. It has everything.
Gurney’s has awesome specials in the winter, so take advantage of the (seriously) lower prices before it starts to warm up.
