For me, tequila by its lonesome typically brings up some not-so-fond memories of my college days. BUT tequila in margaritas is my jam.
When El Jimador invited me out for a night of trying NYC’s best margaritas, I had to say yes (National Margarita Day was just around the corner, so there was no other appropriate answer).
The group gathered at our first stop, Toloache, where I soon figured out everyone else there was much cooler than me. We dove into chips and guacamole and tacos to prime our tummies and got to know each other a little better. Among the group of bloggers and influencers, there were also artists, chefs, and radio hosts with a whole lotta stories to tell.
We hopped from bar to bar, trying three margaritas, designed by three different bartenders, that had never been served before, at each spot. A seriously phenomenal white just-out-of-high-school-prom stretch limo, bounced us from Toloache to Mexican Radio to Grey Lady to Mother’s Ruin and then to our final destination, Los Feliz.
We tried FIFTEEN margaritas. If that sounds like a lot, it’s because it is. Some were traditional, some were fruit infused, and some were quite unique (rosemary black coal margaritas, anyone?).
Don’t worry Mom, there was a big dinner waiting for us at Los Feliz and I finished the night off with fifteen quesadillas, just to make it even.
Five winning bartenders and their cocktails have been selected to be featured at their bars for the months of March and April. Make sure to try one of the winning cocktails at the participating bars through April.
The winning bartenders will compete against 10 other bartenders at the Hot Sauce Expo on April 23rd to determine who is the Margarita Champion of NYC.
Thank you to El Jimador for a wonderful evening and for partnering on this post.
