At 3pm on Friday afternoon, my girlfriend Caitlin and I were sitting on Bondi Beach checking out the forecast for the weekend and it was not looking jazzy. The forecast for Jervis Bay, however, was looking partly cloudy with a chance of jazziness on Sunday. So an hour later, we recruited our friend Kelly, hopped in the convertible and drove three hours down the coast.
Jervis Bay – or as I like to call it Jervis Bae – is a pretty small town south of Sydney with water that is so aqua blue and clear that you might get confused and think you’ve teleported to Turks and Caicos. It’s insane. There’s just a few restaurants, one bar and a whole lot of beautiful white sand beaches.
It’s still spring Down Unda, so the town was a little sleepy but we had ourselves a nice little girls weekend full of coffee, avocado toast, beach walks and red wine, followed by one really solid beach day…
A crash course on Jervis Bay, should you find yourself in the area…
Huskisson Bakery – Brekky Pies, one of the better Chai lattes I’ve ever had and more baked goods than should be available going into bikini season
5 Little Pigs
The Huskisson Hotel
Coastal Walk – Walk or rent bikes; It’s about eight miles roundtrip and hugs the beach the whole way; Pack a picnic and some beers if you’re a real professional
Rent a Boat – We didn’t have enough good weather days to do this + the beach, but we have friends that rented catamarans and it looks like a ball
Hyams Beach – See below photos, enough said
AirBnb is the way to go – If there’s just a few of you, stay in Huskisson; If you have a big group, set up shop near Hyams Beach and make your own party
